On Monday, June 11th, 2018,U.S Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the Trump Administration recklessly decided that immigrant victims fleeing domestic violence and gang violence are not worthy of our care and compassion. Yesterday, the Trump administration made it clear that victim’s of perpetual abuse and desperation do not have enough grounds to seek protection. Just a week from announcing that women and children will be forcibly separated at the border. Now fear of a third attack on women and children victims of domestic violence is at stake as VAWA (Violence Against Women’s Act); that provides protection, services, and resources to victims; is up for reauthorization with Jeff Sessions have the deciding vote. SEPA Mujer urges all those in support of VAWA Reauthorization to immediately take action. Given the recent policy changes around separation of families at the border and the asylum petition block we urge swift action.
