Position Summary The Welcoming Navigator is the key point of contact for newly arrived immigrants, providing immediate, comprehensive, and culturally specific support. The Navigator identifies grassroots outreach opportunities, provides case management to facilitate community integration, and works closely with the legal team to provide law-related support. This role is responsible for executing programmatic activities and meeting the quantifiable objectives established in the Welcoming New York Program work plan.+2

Program Goals and Objectives

  • Holistic Integration: Facilitate successful transition for immigrants in Suffolk County, addressing immediate needs like housing, health, and education.
  • Legal Literacy: Increase community knowledge through Know Your Rights (KYR) workshops and ensure connections to internal legal services.
  • Trauma-Informed Care: Ensure all services and referrals are delivered with a culturally specific, bilingual, and trauma-informed approach.
  • Broad Engagement: Engage a minimum of 1,200 individuals annually through Welcoming Navigator and Law-Related Support services.

Responsibilities

  • Project Management and Leadership:
    • Grant Oversight: Drive the implementation of the entire grant work plan, ensuring all quarterly deadlines and objectives are met.
    • Compliance: Ensure all services are offered at no cost to clients and adhere to NYS IT accessibility policies for virtual services.
    • Public Representation: Endorse the HF & ONA logo on public documents and include the ONA Hotline number on all outreach materials.
  • Direct Services and Case Management:
    • Intake & Assessment: Conduct trauma-informed needs assessments and initial screenings to schedule legal consultations or other legal services.
    • Holistic Assistance: Assist clients with school enrollment, job applications, health insurance, and access to public benefits.
    • Legal Liaison: Serve as the main contact for SEPA Mujer’s legal team and partner with the HF network to support attorneys and DOJ representatives.
    • Law-Related Support: Provide interpretation/translation and coordinate necessary travel for clients to attend immigration-related hearings or appointments.
  • Community Outreach and Education:
    • KYR Workshops: Organize and conduct Know Your Rights workshops.
    • Specialized Training: At least one workshop per quarter must cover “How to Prepare for ICE Raids”.
    • Priority Outreach: Target services toward immigrants in state or NYC funded shelters and families in the Migrant Relocation Assistance Program (MRAP).

Reporting Requirements

  • Data Collection: Meticulously record all client contacts, services provided, and workshop attendance in the required database.
  • Detailed Logging: Maintain logs of initial assessments including time, date, location, individuals served, and identified trends.
  • Referral Tracking: Maintain a log showing the number and type of immigration legal cases referred and where referrals were made.
  • Internal Updates: Update internal report numbers weekly for bi-weekly submission to the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with immigrant communities and a deep understanding of their unique challenges.
  • Bilingual English-Spanish required; must be able to serve clients in the language of their choice.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and facilitating presentations.
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable car; willing to travel throughout Long Island and drive community members occasionally.
  • Must attend professional development training.
  • Computer skills, including Google Workspace, databases, Excel, and Canva.
