Equity and Community Empowerment (ECE)

SEPA Mujer’s Equity and Community Empowerment Program is dedicated to building the leadership, voice, and power of immigrant women and families across Long Island. Through advocacy, education, and grassroots organizing, we work to address systemic injustices and promote equity in our communities.

We offer workshops, leadership training, civic engagement opportunities, and community-based campaigns that uplift the voices of those often left out of decision-making spaces. Our program empowers participants to become active agents of change—shaping policies, advocating for their rights, and building stronger, more inclusive communities.

Join us in creating a future rooted in justice, dignity, and opportunity for all.

Social Justice Campaigns and Advocacy

The ECE is actively involved in social justice campaigns and is a proud member of various task forces, coalitions, and initiatives at both local and statewide levels. We advocate for the needs of our community to local and state legislators.

Language Access

The Language Access campaign in New York is dedicated to ensuring that all New Yorkers, regardless of their English proficiency, can meaningfully access government services, information, and civic processes. Its primary purpose is to eliminate communication barriers by requiring state and city agencies to provide interpretation services and translate vital documents into the most commonly spoken non-English languages. The goal is to ensure equitable participation in democracy, healthcare, and public services, recognizing that language should not be a barrier to essential resources or civic engagement. This includes making voter information, healthcare services, and other critical public resources understandable and available to Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals.

NY 4 ALL

The NY 4 ALL campaign advocates for legislation that would protect immigrant New Yorkers from entanglement with federal immigration enforcement (ICE). Its core purpose is to create safer, more inclusive communities by prohibiting state and local government agencies, including police and sheriffs, from colluding with ICE, sharing sensitive information, or diverting local resources to federal deportation efforts. The goal is to ensure that all New Yorkers, regardless of immigration status, can live, work, access healthcare, and utilize public services without fear of detention or deportation, thereby fostering trust between immigrant communities and local authorities.

Care 4 Immigrants

The Care 4 Immigrants, also widely known as the #Coverage4All campaign, aims to expand health insurance access to all low-income New Yorkers, regardless of their immigration status. The purpose is to address the significant gap in healthcare coverage for hundreds of thousands of uninsured immigrants who are currently excluded from state and federal health insurance programs. The ultimate goal is to achieve full health equity by ensuring that every New Yorker has access to affordable, comprehensive health care, making communities safer and stronger by prioritizing the health of all residents, including essential workers who may lack coverage.

Greenlight NY

The Greenlight NY campaign's primary purpose was to ensure equal access to driver's licenses for all residents of New York State, regardless of immigration status. This coalition-driven effort aimed to remove the barrier preventing hundreds of thousands of immigrants from obtaining a driver's license. The campaign achieved its goal with the passage of the Green Light legislation, allowing undocumented immigrants to obtain driver's licenses, thereby increasing road safety, promoting economic stability, and fostering greater integration within communities. The ongoing goal is now to ensure effective and equitable implementation across the state.

NY Transportation Equity

The NY Transportation Equity campaign works towards creating a fair, accessible, and sustainable transportation system for all New Yorkers. Its purpose is to address the disproportionate burden faced by low-income residents, communities of color, individuals with disabilities, and the elderly due to inadequacies in the current transportation system. The goals include advocating for balanced funding that prioritizes public transit, cycling, and walking infrastructure over car dependency, reducing vehicle miles traveled (VMT) to improve air quality and public health, enhancing access to jobs and essential services, and ensuring that transportation planning is people-centered and inclusive of all voices. We are committed to advocating for what you need in your community directly to local and state legislators.
